Today I have an easy fun fold card idea to share called a Double Gate Fold. It’s a fun and simple card idea that is sure to wow your friends and family. Plus, it’s a great way to show off your patterned papers.
Pansy Petals Suite
The cards feature products from the Stampin’ Up! Pansy Petals Suite. I just love the beautiful floral prints in the design series paper. Plus the sentiments in the stamp set work perfectly with this design. However, keep in mind you can use these card designs with ANY supplies you have on hand.
The entire fun fold card is created with a 5-1/2 x 12 inch piece of patterned paper! I simply used a bit of cardstock to add a greeting on the front and a place to write a message on the inside of the card. It’s super simple to create too! Just think of how many cards you can make with the patterned papers you may already have on hand!
Double Gatefold Design
To create the double gate fold design. start by cutting a 5-1/2 x 12 inch piece of patterned paper. If you are using paper that has a directional pattern, be sure to check out this week’s video for some tips on cutting the paper. Once you have your patterned paper cut, score the 12 inch side at 2, 4, 8 and 10 inches. Fold the card to create the “peaks” and “valleys” as shown.
On the 5-1/2 inch side of the paper, measure 2-3/4 inches down from the top and make a little mark with a pencil. Repeat this on each of the 5-1/2 inch sides of the paper. Make a diagonal cut from the pencil mark up to the top of the paper just before the score line. Repeat this diagonal cut on the other side of the paper. Take the two left over triangular pieces and adhere one to each of the bottom corners of the patterned paper as shown. Then simply decorate as desired! You can also use a bit of ribbon to create a belly band for the card. The ribbon will keep the card closed.
