Two concurrent exhibitions on both coasts manifest in the expansive catalogue Lee Friedlander Framed by Joel Coen, for which the idiosyncratic filmmaker curated a selection of images depicting the photographer’s unique approach to composition, being exhibited at both Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco and Luhring Augustine in New York—and it’s a robust, visually dense, and eccentric sequence of Friedlander’s photography that only a Coen brother could assemble, with an afterword by Frances McDormand, actress and creative collaborator (as well as wife) of Coen…at Fraenkel through June 24 and Luhring Augustine through July 28.
