A PALMER hit list of what’s new, now, and next from around the globe—from our obsessive-at-large, Wynn Burson Cateron.

Two concurrent exhibitions on both coasts manifest in the expansive catalogue Lee Friedlander Framed by Joel Coen, for which the idiosyncratic filmmaker curated a selection of images depicting the photographer’s unique approach to composition, being exhibited at both Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco and Luhring Augustine in New York—and it’s a robust, visually dense, and eccentric sequence of Friedlander’s photography that only a Coen brother could assemble, with an afterword by Frances McDormand, actress and creative collaborator (as well as wife) of Coen…at Fraenkel through June 24 and Luhring Augustine through July 28. The catalogue is available on both galleries’ websites, $65.
