Haley Joel Osment‘s famed line from “The Sixth Sense” — “I see dead people” — still follows him around 20 years later.
“It still shocks me, like the cultural life of that line,” he told Page Six on Thursday night of the iconic phrase from the 1999 film. “I was at a Dodgers game a few years ago and they do little games on video in between innings with the players and Yasiel Puig came up on the screen and said it.”
“Things like that kind of shock you but it’s all in good fun,” he said while chatting at the premiere of “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” — a film following the story of serial killer Tim Bundy — at the BMCC Performing Arts Center during the Tribeca Film Festival.
Osment, 31, who plays a friend of Bundy’s girlfriend (played by Lily Collins), said it was “a wonderful experience” working with “legendary documentarian” Joe Berlinger and actors Zac Efron and Angela Sarafyan on the project.
“I think when you come together on an indie film, everybody just gels really quickly,” he added.
During his chat with us, fans began screaming and photographers’ flashbulbs went off like crazy as Efron entered the venue.
“Yeah, you can tell when he comes in the room,” Osment joked, explaining that “Sundance is probably the closest I’ve gotten to what is his daily existence … he’d always have to take a different route and go around the back.”
“He’s such a wonderful guy and so kind to everyone considering the pressure he’s geographically under all the time, I really admire him,” the actor added.
“Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” was released on Friday on Netflix.
Additionally, Osment stars in Amazon series “The Boys” that premiered at the festival on Monday.
