The Hot Wheels Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R has gone full BEAST MODE! The now “classic” #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R casting — which debuted in the #2011 New Models — received a makeover courtesy of the Hot Wheels design team and #Liberty Walk.

Liberty Walk (LBWK) is a Japanese aftermarket manufacturer known widely for their aggressive body kits. Their relationship with Hot Wheels has flourished over the past year bringing collectors five LBWK Hot Wheels castings. The brands have formed a symbiotic relationship in the world of car culture as each place vehicle aesthetics at the forefront of their brand’s mission statement forming a mutually beneficial relationship between 1:64 and 1:1. The Hot Wheels #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R LBWK is the latest.

Despite being the latest creation of the Hot Wheels x LBWK partnership, #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R LBWK is certainly the oldest vehicle by model year in this mini garage. The other #JDM castings in the bunch — LB-ER34 Super Silhouette Nissan Skyline (red), LB Super Silhouette Nissan Silva (S15) (white), and LB-Silhouette Works GT Nissan 35GT-RR Ver. 2 (blue) — are of the silhouette variety with their enlarged chin spoilers, dramatically-wide body kits, and huge rear wings. The 2000GT-R and the LB-Works Huracán Coupé are less eccentric, but still very aggressive in their styling.

The #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R LBWK is a Hot Wheels retool done right! A cool casting already in the #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R gets a slammed and modern approach. The bright turquoise paint, yellow windshield banner, and black fender flares are all nice touches in this debut release. The Hot Wheels team even made it a point to tampo the new tilted headlights in the front!

The good news is that it doesn’t appear the LBWK 2000GT-R is replacing the more stock looking “Kenmeri” 2000GT-R entirely. The older casting is being released concurrently as part of the Blue & Pink Themed Assortment. For those that already have a collection of it — like myself — it will be nice to keep that going.

For comparison sake, let’s take a look at how the two castings stack up against each other.

The older 2000GT-R casting — shown in white here — sits higher than the slammed 2000GT-R LBWK. From the head-to-head comparison above you’ll also see that the wheels on the new casting are much smaller and that there was a front & rear marker light deletion. Overall though, the silhouette stays true to the original car across both castings.

When you look at booth 2000GT-R’s from the front, you’ll notice the most updating took place here. The round headlights of the 2011 casting, were replaced with the more block-shaped ones on the 2022 LBWK casting. The tilted nature of them is plucked straight from Japanese car culture as well as the front air cooler which is now immediately present just like on the “Hakosuka” #Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-X casting.

In the back, the story is much different as the rear looses the signature #Skyline taillights that made the Kenmeri so popular among Hot Wheels collectors in the first place. The rear of the new casting is essentially one-piece now (excluding the license plate and rear exhaust). This wasn’t done from a Hot Wheels design perspective by choice. The #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R LBWK is actually based on the owner’s (of LBWK) real car.

The fact that this Hot Wheels #Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R LBWK is a real car shouldn’t surprise you. The whole Hot Wheels #Liberty Walk lineup are all cars that exist in the real world. Yes, even the Super Silhouette R34 Skyline! The fact is simple: LBWK cars have a unique look to them. They are different, look cool, and embody the Hot Wheels brand identifiers of speed, power, and performance. Please excuse me while I google, “LBWK” and see what else is coming our way!
