Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed that the punk trio could release more new material before hitting the road this summer on the Hella Mega tour, and might even debut some previously unheard songs during that trek.
Armstrong said that he has written "three or four" new tunes finishing its new album Father Of All Motherf**kers, adding that there are also songs around that were left off the LP. He explained, "We’ve got, like, seven songs left from that session. And then, yeah, there’s like four more (that have been written since then) . . . So hopefully maybe there’ll be even more music this summer. We’ll see what happens.”
In the meantime, Armstrong said that the set list for the Hella Mega tour will be geared toward hits and classics, remarking, "You know, we’re going to play a couple of new songs, and then definitely going to blast into all of the stuff that people . . . all the favorites.”
Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt told us a while back how the band approaches its vast catalog these days when putting together its live set: ["We try to keep it fun for ourselves, you know. We'll mix it up if we feel like it's getting too — you know, we don't want to ever going through the motions ever, either, so you know, we won't do it. We'll stop in the middle of a set and go, 'You know what? We're gonna play Dookie in its entirety.' But you know, we just keep it fun. It definitely is a good problem to have, to have such a big discography."] SOUNDCUE (:18 OC: . . . a big discography.)
Father Of All Motherf**kers, Green Day's 13th album, came out earlier this month. The Hella Mega tour, also starring Fall Out Boy and Weezer, kicks off its North American leg in July.
