Galten from Mjeltebakkane
Volda
Galten is Sunnmøre’s answer to Trolltunga and a popular hiking destination. It offers a great view especially over Dalsfjorden. You can also follow a nice route further to Mount Kornbergveten if you want to extend your hike.
Start by following the forest road for about 1 km. Just after a sharp turn, walk onto a path and follow it uphill until you reach a well defined path that goes from Folkestadsætra. Follow this path further west until you reach Galten. Galten is a rock ledge that has become a popular photo spot.
You will get a great view of Volda, Austefjorden, and Dalsfjorden.
Just after the ferry terminal in Folkestad, turn off onto Dalsfjordvegen Road in the direction of Lauvstad. Take an almost 180-degree left turn (at the sign for “Råsa”) near the Coop shop. Continue following the road, without taking any side roads, in the direction of Folkestadsætra where a toll road begins (NOK 40 for a private car in 2019, Vipps is possible). Drive for about 1 km after you pass the toll station. There is cultivated land on the left side of the road. The trail starts on the right-hand side. You can park at the starting point of the trail, but please do not block in other cars when parking.

Many people choose to walk from the ferry terminal. The distance to the starting point is about 2 km.
Another option is to drive to Folkestadsætra and start walking from there. Please see the trail description for Kornbergvetent. It involves slightly less climbing.
