Ray Liotta Talks His ‘Another World’ Beginnings During Interview Released Posthumously: “I Played The Nicest Character in the World, Joey Perrini.”

Photos: NBC

Sadly, Ray Liotta, the veteran film and television actor passed away back in May of 2022 in the Dominican Republic in what was ruled by the autopsy results from cardiovascular disease.

Liotta left behind a legacy of iconic film roles in Goodfellas, Field of Dreams, Something Wild, Cop Land, Narc, Smokin’ Aces, Hannibal and towards the end of his career, A Marriage Story and the AppleTV+ series, Black Bird for which he received an Emmy nomination.

However, daytime drama fans can claim they found the talented Liotta, first! That’s because he got his television start in New York on NBC’s Another World.  Ray played Joey Perrini from 1978-1981, before exiting his role to pursue his career in Los Angeles.

In an unpublished interview released by Deadline by Mike Fleming Jr., the journalist sat own with Liotta in Toronto to talk to him about his role in A Marriage Storym but decided to hold the interview until Ray’s next film. Between that time, Liotta had died.

Now in a career-retrospective chat, Liotta discussed his beginnings on Another World, after landing an agent and manager in New York City. Ray recalled: “I was starting to go out for stuff. Within a month, I was being flown to LA for Beatles Are Forever. It was later called something else (I Wanna Hold Your Hand), it was Robert Zemeckis, one of his first movies. I didn’t get that. Then on a rainy day they gave me an audition for a soap. I said, ‘I don’t want to be on a f*cking soap opera.’ They said, “Well, you’re going to make money doing it.’ So, I ended up doing it.”

Liotta added: “It was Another World, and I played the nicest character in the world, Joey Perrini. The producer would go to Broadway shows, go to the people backstage that had parts he knew that were coming up, and he’d ask them, ‘Why don’t you come and do this? You’ll make some money, because you’re not making money here in the theater, and whatever time you need to get to the theater, I’ll make sure your stuff is done and you get there.’ So, I was working with really good actors. Kathleen Widdoes was my mother. She was just great. So, I really was learning in front of the camera. Doing a soap, you don’t take it that serious, which is great because you’re looser to do whatever you want.”

Let us know if you watched Ray as Joey Perrini on AW, and if you knew then that he would become such a popular star in motion pictures via the comment section below.

I was lucky enough to catch ray Liotta on another world first of all he was great and yes you definitely got the feeling he would move on and anyone who was fortunate enough to watch another world also knew they were watching a great soap that for a Major period of time was well written and chose great New York actors from the theater district

I just watched “Field Of Dreams” the other night for the umpteenth time. One of my favorite movies of all times. And regarded as probably the best baseball movie ever with Ray playing the major role of Shoeless Joe Jackson. Never knew he started in the soaps.

Maurice Benard Confirms Steve Burton is Upcoming Guest on ‘State of Mind’

Over this past weekend, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) revealed that he is finally going to have longtime co-star, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) on his State of Mind You Tube series for a sit-down interview.

While speaking with Soap Opera Digest at Nancy Lee Grahn’s (Alexis, GH) ALS fundraiser, Maurice confirmed the taping is happening this week and should be posted in about three weeks time.

Benard shared, “I wanted Steve Burton and I’m shooting him Tuesday, my good friend, but he’s been through a lot and I’ve been asking for three years, but he’s finally going to do it.”

In addition, to the episode, it appears Maurice also confirmed he will be doing a You Tube live on Tuesday, May 7th as well at 3 pm PT possibly with Burton.

As GH viewers know, for year Jason was Sonny’s henchman, and his right hand. Now upon Jason’s return, the two are at complete odds, due in part to Sonny’s medication being completely manipulated by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and his growing paranoia.

As for what Burton will discuss, as Benard teased Steve has gone through a lot of personal ups and downs as well as professional, over the last three or more years, but has always landed on his feet. It will be interesting to hear this thoughts on those matters and how he soldiered through.

So, excited to see Maurice and Steve have a serious chat on State of Mind? Comment below.

Tom Selleck Continues to Think ‘CBS Will Come to Their Senses’ Following Cancellation of ‘Blue Bloods’

The Young and the Restless alum, Tom Selleck (ex-Jed Andrews), who has starred on CBS’ police procedural Blue Bloods for 14 seasons, is speaking out on the decision by the network to cancel the show.

During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning Selleck expressed his thoughts on if the show might get a last minute reprieve as Shemar Moore’s (ex-Malcolm, Y&R) S.W.A.T. has.

Tom shared,”I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses. We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Selleck has been with Blue Bloods since its inception and its premiere in 2010, in the role of Commissioner Frank Reagan.

Aware that the cast has asked CBS to reconsider its position, CBS Entertainment President, Amy Reisenbach said, “We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

Blue Blood also stars Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, and Len Cariou. Selleck is pictured above with former Y&R stars, Deidre Hall (now Marlena, Days of our Lives) and Jaime Lyn Bauer (ex-Lorie).
