The New L’oreal True Match Foundation (New Packaging): Review!

This is a post from my old blog viemodevoyage@wordpress.com that I was able to recover. I decided to consolidate all of my posts in my newer blog. Hope you enjoy)

Hello everyone, as seen on my SM Department Store Drugstore Makeup Haul, I bought two of the New True Match Foundation. As I expressed in my review of the new L’oreal True Match Blur cream, I am confused with this foundation. Some say that this is just a new packaging (similar to the True Match in Japan) but with similar formulation, while some sales assistants say that this is a new and improved formulation. However, after researching, I found that this is indeed a new and improved formulation.

So, is it at par with the old True Match? Let’s find out!

What L’oreal Claims:

Introducing the New True Match Foundation with Micro Beads that precisely matches skin color and texture for the no-makeup makeup look.

Yup, that’s it. No other information. LOL But this has SPF 16. This is not enough protection against the sun but at least it helps.

Packaging

This packaging is much different from the old True Match foundation. This new packaging reminds me of the L’oreal Paris Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation, but only with different colors. Whereas the Infallible has Black and Red Packaging, this is silver, which makes it look very sleek. Love the packaging. The pump releases enough product. My  only con for this is you cannot scoop out product once you are running low on the foundation since it is impossible to open the nozzle. Believe me, I tried. I was curious.

Shade Range

In contrast to the old True Match foundation which has 33 shades, this only has 15 shades. I think the color range is more for those who are not that pale nor not that dark. This foundation is more catered on the medium skin toned girls out there.

I initially got mine in G5 but I found that it is a tad dark on me so I wanted to buy a foundation that is two shades lighter so that I can mix them but it was not available so I ended up buying G4 instead, which I still did not open, for fear of it expiring. I have loads of opened foundations and I want to use up the others first before opening another one. This shade still works for me but sometimes I just mix this with my Lumi foundation (review soon!)

Shade Comparison

For reference, my shades from other brands are the following:

Price and Where to Buy

I bought this for P600 from it’s original price of P795 because L’oreal Paris – Philippines is having a grand sale until December. This can be bought in SM Department Stores, selected Watson’s Outlets, Robinson’s mall and Ayala Malls.

Texture and Consistency

G5 is darker than me but it has the perfect neutral undertone for me. Weirdly enough, the G4 is much yellower. I mix the two together.

It is a little bit thicker than the original True Match Foundation. It is less runny but still smooth.

How to apply

I apply this foundation using the Elf Stippling Brush or the Real Technique Miracle Sponge. Both yield the same result. I just prefer using sponges as of the moment.

Just apply one or two layers of this foundation. More than that will make it look cakey. I always powder my face since I have oily skin. I use the L’oreal True Match Pressed Powder (review soon!)

Coverage

Since this is thicker, I can say that this has more coverage than the old True Match. I have quite a few blemishes and this foundation covered most of them. I can say that this has a light to medium coverage.

Flash Photography

There’s no white cast to this foundation even while having a flash photography.

Finish

I like the finish of this foundation. It has more of a matte finish than a satin finish but there is still a natural glow to it.

Lasting Power

Right: Bare face. Left: With Foundation. It covered most of my blemishes on my forehead and cheeks. I applied 1/4 of each foundation for the whole face. You can build the foundation if you want but I prefer medium coverage.

This foundation is good for all types of skin. I have oily skin and if I wear this foundation without a primer, it will all slide off after 6 to 7 hours. Not bad actually. However, living here in the Philippines, it is so hot and humid and I am sweating all day, which is why I prefer wearing a primer underneath this to prolong its lasting power. While the foundation wears off throughout the day, it does not go patchy. I actually like how it looks throughout the day. While some blemishes appear after a few hours, I like how the foundation looks after about 6 hours since it looks like my face has a natural glow to it.

Overall Thoughts

I like this foundation a lot! L’oreal is the one of the few drugstore brands that does not break me out.  I like the finish of this foundation. The SPF is a bonus. Coverage is good and lasting power is okay. This foundation also does not transfer, which is more than I can say with the Le Teint True Match Foundation. All in all, I recommend this product. If you have sensitive skin like mine, you should try this foundation since this did not break me out even after a month of using it.

Thank you guys! See you on my next post!

UPDATE (Nov. 25, 2017)

I am still loving this foundation. My skin is no longer as oily as when this post was originally written so the foundation lasts for 8 hours on me before it starts to slide off my face. This also hasn’t broken me out even if it is already past the 12 month expiration. 😉
