Fishspot destination 2016: Situated in the middle of a fishing “El Dorado” you will find the beautiful Galten Farm. In stunning surroundings and rich on traditions, this destination offers several options for accommodation, and even more options for fishing and expeditions into the wild surround nature. The farm offers old classic cabins and rooms in the main building for accommodation, but with the comfort of modern facilities. You can choose home catering, but we strongly recommend the dining offered at the farm house with local specialties and local ingredients. Galten also offers flies and other fishing equipment in their store.

Galten offers amazing and wild surroundings and a very diverse fishing. Lake Galtsjøen offers among others three fly fishing zones. The shallow and nutrient-rich lake has an impressive population of grayling, trout and mountain whitefish. During hatches fish migrate from the lake into the streams to feed. Smithseter
As far as accommodation goes, Galten Farm have several options, and we would especially like to mention Smithseter. The distinctive cabin Smithseter at lake Galtsjøen was built in 1892 as a country home for two British fly fishing enthusiasts. Smithseter is now restored and in prime condition to accommodate anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Smithseter is owned by Galten Farm and a fine example of the long tradition of fishing tourism in Norway.

Galtstrømmen
Galtstrømmen Fly Fishing Zone starts at Galthåen and ends at Galtsjøen. Fly fishing has long traditions in this area close to Galten Gård. When there are large hatches of mayflies or caddis you will see big grayling, whitefish and huge trout feeding. If you are lucky to be there at the right time, watching the shallows, you can see wild brown trout up to 3 kg cruising around. Waders are a must when fishing this area.

Galthue
Galthodet Fly Fishing zone starts at the outlet of Galtsjøen and continues down Femundselva. Fly fishing has a long tradition in this area, on the west bank you will find “Smithsetra”, as mentioned above. The English Smith brothers built “Smithsetra” at the end of the 19th century. The grayling dominates this area, and there are good chances to catch grayling over 45 cm.

Isterfossen
Isterfossen Fly Fishing Zone is the outlet from The Isternen Lake above Isterfoss bridge. This area offers extremely good grayling fishing all season long. During good hatches the grayling come down from the lake and produce intense raising periods. The size of Isteren works as a holding dam so the water level is fairly stable even after long periods of rain.

Travel and other information

The Galten Farm is located in Engerdal municipality. Distance from Oslo Gardermoen Airport is about 250 km, it takes approximately 3,5 hours to travel by car.  Galten Farm is located 100 km from Røros Airport, a 1,5 hour drive.

It takes about 15 minutes to drive from the farm to Drevsjø. In Drevsjø there is a supermarket where one also can buy fishing equipment. There is a cafeteria and a gas station.
