Hidradenitis suppurativa, also known as acne inversus, is a chronic skin inflammation condition known to affect 2 percent of the world's population. In Korea alone, there are 10,000 people diagnosed with this condition.

Lee Hong Ki revealed that he suffers from hidradenitis suppurativa on the Shine a Light YouTube channel on December 18th. It is said that he has had the disease since middle school.

Although the disease he suffers from is not visible to the public, the pain experienced by Lee Hong Ki greatly disrupts his work schedule. However, he finds it difficult to be open about his condition.

"I have been suffering from a disease called 'hidradenitis suppurativa' since middle school. Sometimes, I have to leave filming early or cancel my concerts. Many schedules have been canceled because I can't move. I can't walk, move, or sing anymore. I also can't travel by plane," said Lee Hong Ki.

The symptoms experienced by Lee Hongki are extremely painful pain in his buttocks accompanied by high fever, where the lump on his body can sometimes burst at any time.

"The symptoms are often accompanied by high fever, and I am too embarrassed to talk about it. The boil can burst without me realizing it, releasing a lot of blood and fluid. It's so bad that I always have to carry spare underwear just in case... The pain is so excruciating that if Santa Claus really exists, I want a new butt for Christmas," joked Lee Hong Ki.

Due to this condition, Lee Hong Ki had to experience embarrassing incidents like what happened to him during his military service from 2019 to 2021.

"I was relatively late in starting military duty, so my friends are much younger than me. At first, they were like, 'Look who's here! It's Lee Hongki!' But then I became self-conscious when they saw me with a strange-looking toilet. I was so embarrassed," recalls Lee Hong Ki.

However, Lee Hong Ki, who slowly began to open up about his condition, admitted that he was greatly helped in coming to terms with hidradenitis suppurativa. His mind became calmer and he no longer felt ashamed.
