EXCLUSIVE: Haley Joel Osment has been cast in Amazon‘s sci-fi drama pilot based on The Book of Strange New Things, Michel Faber’s cult hit novel. Osment joins Richard Madden, who will topline the potential series, which Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) is writing and executive producing and Andy Harries and Lila Rawlings are producing. Kevin Macdonald is directing the hourlong pilot being produced by Amazon Studios and Left Bank Productions.
The still-untitled TV adaptation of Faber’s 2014 book takes place in the near future, when Earth is becoming unsustainable. Madden stars as Peter, a priest who is sent into space to help found a new colony, but what he ends up discovering not only puts his faith to the test but life as we know it. Osment will play Sy, a man who used to grow large quantities of marijuana before being recruited to work on the new colony as chief botanist.
Osment most recently recurred on Hulu’s Future Man, as well as TV Land’s Teachers. His recent film credits include Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers, Holding Patterns and Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town.
He is repped by APA, MGMT Entertainment and Edelstein Laird & Sobel.
