Edi Gathegi, who has been heavily recurring on The Blacklist this season, is set to segue to the proposed spinoff of the popular NBC series. Gathegi will be a series regular opposite Famke Janssen and Ryan Eggold if the spinoff goes to series, reprising his role as Matias Solomon, a Cabal operative sent to hunt down Reddington.
The new show will be introduced as a planted spinoff in Episode 322 of The Blacklist, which airs May 12, written by The Blacklist creator/executive producer Jon Bokenkamp and exec producer/showrunner John Eisendrath and directed by Michael Dinner. (Janssen will make her Blacklist debut the prior week, in Episode 321.)
Janssen will play Susan “Scottie” Halsted. No details are being provided on Janssen’s character or the storyline for the spinoff, but I hear that Scottie was conceived to be to Tom (Eggold) what Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) is to Liz (Megan Boone) on the original series.
The spinoff was created by Bokenkamp and Eisendrath, who executive produce with The Blacklist exec producers John Davis and John Fox.
Additionally, Gathegi will continue as a series regular on the Crackle series Start Up, which also is produced by Sony TV, allowing him to juggle two series regular gigs. He is repped by ICM Partners and Framework Entertainment. The Blacklist and the spinoff also were packaged by ICM Partners.
