Building on Peru’s recently adopted cancer law, Arequipa has joined C/Can to generate learnings and best practices that can be replicated and scaled across the country. Cancer is currently the second most common cause of death nationwide, and Arequipa is striving to light a path towards a new, multi-disciplinary approach to tackling the disease.

Needs and challenges in Arequipa

A multidisciplinary technical committee of local experts and institutions is currently undertaking an analysis of the state of cancer care in the city and identifying essential priorities.

Peru’s health sector is implementing structural changes to fight cancer in an organised and integrated manner, so this MoU is a propitious moment to strengthen our work in reducing the burden of this disease.
