Enköpings stadshotell

an era checks out

Last call!

[EN] After a long argument between different interests the city hotel in Enköping was eventually demolished. The hotel opened in 1879 and parts of it were in use until the late 90s. The structural damages were obvious to anyone passing by and a restoration would have been very extensive, but not impossible. Now (January 2014) a three or four story building with flats and shops is planned here and the question whether demolishing was the right thing or not something for history to judge. We visited the hotel during one of the last days in its life. The extension from 1940 was already gone but the heart of the hotel – the ballroom and the neon sign – were still there, luckily.
