The OpenBSD operating system focuses on security and the development of security features. According to author Michael W. Lucas, OpenBSD "is widely regarded as the most secure operating system available anywhere, under any licensing terms."

OpenBSD features a robust TCP/IP networking stack, and can be used as a router or wireless access point. OpenBSD's security enhancements, built-in cryptography, and packet filter make it suitable for security purposes such as firewalls, intrusion-detection systems, and VPN gateways.

FreeBSD is more scalable than OpenBSD. OpenBSD is excellent for small to medium-sized systems, however, there is a reason why many major organizations choose FreeBSD. It is typically better suited for big operations because of its performance, organization, and third-party assistance.

It is an Unix-like operating systems. It is available for many platforms including servers, NAS, workstations and embedded systems. It is basically written using C language, assembly language, Perl and Unix shell. The first version of OpenBSD was launched in 1995.
