Approximately 20–30% of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer have disease that is confined to the liver and is potentially resectable. Several recent large series on resection for colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) have reported five year survival ranging from 25% to 44%, with operative mortality of 0–6.6%.

This review recommends that elective surgery for CRC patients is not postponed longer than 4 weeks, as available evidence suggests extended delays from diagnosis are associated with poorer outcomes. Focused research is essential so patient groups can be prioritized based on risk factors in future delays or pandemics.

Obesity, overweight, and physical inactivity are some of the most modifiable risk factors for CRC that can be prevented [3,6]. It is reported that 38% of the Saudi population are overweight, and 20% are obese, while the percentage of physical inactivity is 80% [25].
