TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CNCERN:
Be it known that I, 'ROBERT OBRIEN, of'iTowlesville, in thecounty of Steuben, and .State ofi-New Yorhhave invented soine new and useful Improvements-in Harnesses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and vexact description thereo'which will enable thoselskilledin the art -to make and -us'e the same,-
reference .being had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this specification. p
The present invention consists in so constructing the several parts of a harness for horses or other animals, with the collar or not included, that,1by the pulling of a single strap, such harness can be opened and set free from the animal at any momentwhen soI desiredthe advantage and importance Voi' which are obvious.-
In .the accompanying plateof drawings, myimprovements in harnesses are illustrated- Figure `1 bcnga plan or top view of a harness spread-ont, which harness is made according to the present invention, and
Figure 2 a central section taken, in the plane oi'y the line z' :lr/,tig 1.
Similar letters of reference' indicate corresponding-parts.
A, in the drawings, represents the bridle portion of the harness, to which B are' the blinders, secured or aflxed to the cheek-straps C. A Y
The upper end of each of the straps C is `looped, and in such loop a metal plate, D, hung, that at their outer ends are hinged together,.turning upon a pintle, E, that extends through the upright'guide-pie'ces F to 4`a plate, G, that, when the bridle'ison, rests upon the top of the head.
E2, a. spring, -on pintle E.
This pintle E terminates at one end' in a loop, H, towhich is hung onee'nd of a. strap, QI, that, at its outer" end, is hung to a loop, J, of a pintle, K, extending loosely through the outer. ends of albracket-arm, L.
M,'a spring, on pintle K, between the'two parts,`N, of the arm L.
To this arm, and on the pintle'K of thesame, is hung another cross-arm, O, to which, in connection with the part P to the bracket-arm L, heieinbeforc referred to,`barsQ,are hung, that are substitutesfor the hainesstraps of ordinary harness.
The strap I is continued underv the bracket-arm and .toward the saddle R, where it is-hung toa loop, S, at one end of'a pintle, T, arranged to move within a bracket-arm, U, of such saddle.
V, a spring, coiled around the pintle'l'l.-
W, a loop, of saddle-bracket arm Upto which is hung the front end of the crupper-strap X.'
The saddle R is made in two parts, hinged together atthe centre line Y, the pintle T, hereinbefore referred to, forming the centre of such hinge. v
Z., a strap, hung to loop W, by the pulling of which the several pi ntles, hereinbefore referred to, are drawn, -and thus theseveral parts ofthe harnessl allowed .to fall apart or along their'linesv where hinged or hung together, as is obvious without any further description.
I claim as new, and desire to secure -byLetters Patent- Y The combination of the bridle C, plates D and G, hamesstraps 0,*bars Q, and' saddle R, with the looped pintles E K'T and straps I Z, all .arranged and operating as her-ein described, for the purpose specified.
