To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, GEORGE D. N ISWON- GER and J ACOB W. HAWENSTINE, citizens of the United States, residing at Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Refrigerator Attachments; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make'and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon,

Our invention relates to improvements in attachments for refrigerators wherein means are provided for filtering and collecting the drain from the ice-box; and the object of our improvement is to utilize the drain from the ice-box for cooling and drinking purposes.

We accomplish our object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a refrigerator partly cut away to show our attachment in use, and Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the filtering-funnel.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Our attachment consists of the vessel 15, having the spout 14., which opens into said vessel at the lower end and projects u pwardly. A lid 17 covers the top of the vessel and is made so as to be easily removed. The wire frame 18 is secured to the rear side of said vessel and serves to hold the same in position by engaging a nail 19, driven into the back of the case 1.

7 is a funnel having a cylindrical lower part 8, which is adapted to fit snugly into the upper end of the spout 14. The lower end of the cylindrical part 8 is closed and is provided with a number of slits 9 9, through which the water may gravitate. A lip 12 is formed in the periphery of the funnel 7 to direct the overflow of the water. Within the funnel is placed a quantity of sand 10 and charcoal 11, or any other filtering material may be substituted.

An overflow-pipe 20 protrudes from the vessel 15 near its top and connects, by means of a hose 13, with the outlet-funnel 6. The said funnel 6 connects with the outlet-pipe 5,which leads to the exterior of the case 1.

A cock 16 is secured to the vessel 15 near its bottom, through which the water may be tles through the filtering substance and enters the spout 14 and vessel 15. Should there be an overflow in the funnel 7, the surplus passes over the lip 12 and falls into the outlet-funnel 6, from whence it flows to the exterior of the case and is discharged. The overflow of the vessel 15 passes through the base 13 into the funnel6 and issimilarly discharged.

By this construction a continuous flow of water passes through the vessel from the bottom toward the top. Thus the last water fil tered can be drawn through the cock, while the stale water is carried to the outlet-pipe and discharged.

Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- An attachment for refrigerators, consisting of a Vessel having an upwardly-extending spout opening into said vessel at its bottom; a cock for drawing the contents of said vessel; an overflow-pipe connected with the outlet of the refrigerator; and a funnel, containing a filtering substance, removably mount-.

ed in said spout, and adapted to receive the water from the drainpipe, substantially as shown and described.
