This invention relates to certain novel improvements in tooth brushes, and has for' its princi al object the rovision of an improve construction o this character whlch o will be highly eicient in use and economical in manufacture.

The salient object of this invention is to provide a tooth brush which will effectively massage the gums during the tooth brushing lo operation.

Another object of the invention is to provide a brush in which a plurality of resilient caps are provided, each of these caps having a recess therein so that when the caps are rubbed over the teeth and gums partial vacuums will be produced by the depressions in the resilient caps thereby stimulating and massaging the Other objects will appear hereinafter.

tion by a retaining plate 18 which is held in position by the head 14, the plate 18 being preferably, though not necessarily, of alight met-a1 such, for example, as aluminum and having openings 19 therein through which the cups 16 may be extended.

In use the resilient cups will be compressed by the pressure exerted thereonduring the operationv of brushing the teeth and as the cups are com ressed a ainst the gums partial vacuums will e forme in the-recesses or cavities 17 which will cause a pulling action to be exerted on the gum tissues, thereby effectively massaging and stimulating the gums and romoting the circulation therein and healthulness thereof, without injuring the gums or causing pain, while, manifestly, the cups will permit a dentrilice to be disposed thereon so that the teeth may be brushed and cleaned.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into ei'ect, this is capable of variation and modification, without de arting from the spirit of the invention. I, t erefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire" to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A tooth brush comprising a handle, a head havin a recess therein, a head extending aroun said recess, a base in the recess, a luralit of resilient cup elements mounte in said ase, each of said cup elements having a cavity therein, and a retalning plate disposed over said base and held thereon by said bead, said late having openings therein through whicli) said cup elements are extended.
