This invention relates to bevel squares and particularly to certain improvements on the structure shown. in Patent No. 897,104 granted to Carl M. Hoeregott on August 25, v
' Thegeneral object of this invention is to so improve this bevel square that it willbe more certain in its action, may be more readily adjusted, that the parts will be more positively held in their adjusted positions, that there will be less liability of wear and that the square will be rendered stronger and more rigid. Another object is to so construct the squarethat the marking blades thereon may be readily set without the necessity of using a steel square forthe purpose.

The side faces of the body 10 are channeled longitudinally for their entire length and disposed in each channel is a Chanel-shaped wear plate 20, see Figures 5 and 6. j At the throat 17 of the body, the lower flange of this channel-shaped wear plate is cut away as shownin Figure 4; Disposed in these channels are the longitudinally extending fiat stems 21 or shanks of supporting brackets 22 each at' itsforwa'rd end having an outstanding ear 23 apertured for the passage of a screw. These shanks 21 are held in sliding engagement within the channels 20 by longitudinally extending plates-24", each of which is held to the body by screws 25.

P'votally, or slidably engaged with each ear 23 by meanslof a bolt32 and wing nut'33, is a blade 34,: each blade being longitudinally slotted as at 35 and the bolt 32 passing through this slot. The forward end of'eacli blade is angularly beveled with reference t0 the longitudinal axis ofthe blade so as'to providea pointed extremity 36 and each extendingfiange 3'7 and a horizontal flange '38 or, in other words, with an angular marin. As will be seen from Figure l,thehead 32 of the bolt 32 bears against the downwardly extending flange 37 and is thus held from rotation.
This "aids in clamping the blade-securely in its ad usted posltion' and at the same time the angular margin strengthensthe blade 34 and renders it more rigid and brings the marking edge ofthe blade in line with the lower edge of thebody :10. One. of the faults of the construction i1- lustrated in the patent referredto was that the shank supporting the lateral blade would springwhen a pencil was. drawn along the outside of the angular blade.
