Tool@ whom/it hwy/concernf l Be 1t. known that LLnoN OsBoRN, a citizen i of the United States, residin -at Zellwood,
in the county otv Orange and tate-of Florida, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Toothbrushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tooth brushes and has for itsob'ect the production ofta simple andeiicient e'tachable brush portion which is removable from the handle in Such amanner as to permit the brush portion' to be easily released from the handle and in this Way permit a new brushportion to be in serted upon the handle should the old 'brush portion become damaged or otherwiserendered unfit rfor use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simple and eiiicient construction wherehy'the brush portion may be held inengagement with'the handle andmay also he readily released therefrom when it is so desired.'
end thereof. This brushengaging shank `2 Other objects and advantages of thepresent invention will appear throughout the lfollowing speciication and claim.
ln the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the handle showing the brush head removed therefrom, li ig. 2 is a' detail perspective of the brush head removed from the handle, and f Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through .a portion of the handle and brush head shown in enga-gement therewith.
Referring to the drawing, it will befseen that 1-designates the handle which isprof vided with a brush engaging shank 2 at A`one is provided upon its longitudinal side edges with inwardly extending ianges 3 forming trackways or ledges upon wluch the brush' head 4 is adapted to slide. `This brush head 4 is provided with laterally extending ledge portions 5,*which ledge portions are adapted he irinly held within the channels 6 formed between the flanges 3 and the hody portion' of the shank 2. Suitable bristles? are carried hy the'hrush head 4 as' clearly illustrated in Fig. 2.
The shank 2 of the handle 1 isl provided with a transversely extending neteh 8 which Specication of Lettersrlate'nt. 'I

notch 8 adapted -to'receive the depending I lip 9 of the spring latch 10. This spring latch or .catch 10 is-provided with an u wardly bowed portion 11 Afrom which e- 4pends the lip or tongue-9of the s ring catch wardly extending hook 12 whichl lits within the outer end of the brush head 4 as clearly shown in Fig. 3. r
In assembling the brush, the brush head 4 is slid within the shank 2 ofthe handle 1.
snugly iitti'ng within the hrush'head 4 and is then bent so as -to overhang the top of the brush head in such al manner as to'cause the tongue or depending lip 9 to sna freely into the' aperture or notch 8 in the s ank 2';
rlhe brush head 4 is alse provided with a lregistering aperture l'formed in the top of the brush head which aperture is adapted to register with the aperture or notch 8- in 'thegs ank 2 and in this way vreceive 'the depending end or tongue 9 of the catch'lO and firmly lock the brush head 4 within the shank 2-o the brush. v; From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a very simple and eHicient means has been'fprovided for holding-*the brush head within the shankof the handle and at the same time it willalso vhe seen that the brushy head maybe readily removed from pose of renewing the brush'. Y
understood that `the'handle when it is so' desired for the purlt, ofcourse, should he certain detailed mechanical changes may be' made in the-present irivention'without departing trom the spirit. thereof, so longas these'changes fall"within the scope of the appended claim. f
. Having thus described my invention, what' -claim as new and desire to secure hyv Le ters Patent, is:
A brush of the class described co ahaiidle having a shank, said sha vided vvith inwardly extending parallel Will be detaehably-held in engagementvvith f trackways, a brush head slidabl Vmounted said shank and handle.
