Description

LE GRAND HIGBEE.
TOOTHBRUSH HEAD.
APPLICATION FILED APR. I2, 1920- RENEWED SEPT\ 21,192].

A 7 l J in] I, l v I g INVENTOR A'ITORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TOOTHBRUSH-H'EAD.
Application filed April 12, 1920, Serial No. 373,227.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ln GRAND Hroenn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cicero, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toothbrush-Heads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a tooth brush head and more particularly to a tooth brush head to be used with the drive mechanism of my co-pending application for patent, and has for its rimary object the provision of a head of such a construction that the bristles may more effectively act upon the teeth of the user.
An object of the invention is to provide a head-in which the bristle portion may be readily removed from the other parts for cleaning purposes or for substituting a new set of bristles.
Another object of the invention is .the novel manner of constructing the base and associatin same with the casing so thatthe base and ristles sigpported thereby maybe quickly removed. y en thebase is arranged in place it will be rigidly held in place during the-mechanical turning of the casing by the mechanism described in my co-pending ap lication, SerialNo. 362,867.
ith these and other objects in View the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing" wherein- A, igure 1 is an enlarged view of my in vention.
Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views. 7 Again referring tothe drawing illustrating one construction of my invention in which the views are considerably enlarged to bring out the details, the numeral 1 designates a casing stamped from a single piece.
of material so asto provide a rear wall 2 and a flange 3. The rear wall is provided with an o ening t'for the rece tion of the shaft 5 which has one end flange at 6 so that the end of the shaft may be secured to'the casing in an suitable manner, such as by,
electric welding. Struck from the flange 3' es 7 which are of a is a plurality of ton formation so as to substantial L shape snap into and out of engagement with the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1921.
Renewed September 21, 1921. Serial No. 502,280.
recess 8 in the base 9 but will readily hold the base against turning within the casing I during the turning of the latter by the mechanism described in my co-pending application. For the purpose of forcing the base from the casing I provide a pin 10 secured to the base and projecting through the opening 11 in the casing so that the finger of the operator may be brought to bear upon the pin and thereby force the base from the casing,
To complete the invention I provide a plurality of bristles 12 secured to the base.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I provide a brush head of two main parts having a detachable connection.
with each other so that the bristle portion may be' readily removed for cleaning purlposes or for renewal.
-In the use of the device there can be a base and its associated bristles for each base into the casing and when'finished removes his base and bristles so that the next party can substitute his base and bristles.
It is, of course to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in other relations and, therefore, I do not demember of the family and, therefore, when the device is being used the party inserts his sire to be limited in any manner exce t as set forth in the claims hereunto appen ed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is- 1. A tooth brush head comprising a casin a shaft projecting therefrom, a plura ity of spring tongues struck from the casing, a base having a plurality of recesses for detachable engagement with the tongues, and bristles projecting from the base.
2. A tooth brush head comprising a casin a shaft projecting therefrom, a plu ra ity of spring tongues struck from the casing, a base having a plurality of recesses for detachable engagement with the tongues,
bristles. projecting from the base, and a pin connected to the base and projecting through the casing so as to be engaged for forcing the base fromthe casing.
In testimony whereof aflix my signature.
LE GRAN-D HIGBEE.
