GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, I916.
Application filed November 23, 1915. Serial No. 63,014.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. MANN- HARDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of Washington and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in game apparatus.
In carrying out my present invention, I employ a base-board having pockets formed therein adjacent to the marginal edges thereof and indicative of different values and seated upon this base;board within the space described by the pockets is a pyramidal block upon each side of which are mounted a plurality of outwardly projecting pins so arranged that a ball or other missile rolling down the side will be thrown from one side to another by the various pins to describe a circuitous path and fall into one of the pockets. Upstanding from the base adjacent to the respective corners thereof are posts and mounted upon the upper ends of the posts above the pyramidal block is a board formed centrally with an opening alining axially with the apex of the pyramid and secured within this opening and projecting upward therefrom is a tube through which the balls or other articles may be dropped on to the pyramid so that such balls may roll down the sides of the pyramid through the passages devised by the pins and into the pockets.
My invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a top plan view of a game apparatus constructed in accordance with my present invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation thereof. Fig. 8 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 3. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3 looking at the bottom of the baseboard.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a base-boardconstructed of any suitable material and preferably rectangular in outline. Formed in the upper surface of the base-board 1 adjacent to the marginal edges thereof are pockets 2 indicative of relatively different values. Seated upon the base-board 1 and appropriately fastened thereto is a block 3 shaped after the fashion of a pyramid and secured to each side of the pyramid block and projecting outwardly therefrom are pins 4 so arranged relatively to one another as to direct a ball or other missile down the side of the pyramid in a circuitous path and into one of the pockets.
Secured to the upper surface of the base 1 adjacent to the respective corners thereof and projecting outwardly therefrom are posts 5 each of a height slightly greater than the height of the block. Seated upon the upper ends of the posts 5 and fastened thereto is a board 6 formed centrally with an opening 7 alining with the apices of the pyramidal block and secured within this opening is a tube 8 upstanding from the board 6 and having the upper end thereof equipped with a hopper 9 whereby balls 10 or analogous missiles may be dropped into the tube.
WVhen playing the game, the player throws the balls onto the board 6 with a view to causing such balls to rebound into the hopper 9 and the balls that rebound into the hopper fall through the tube 10 and strike the apex of the pyramidal block and are then directed 011 to one of the sides of the block and roll down such side between the pins 4 thereon. The ball, when rolling down the side of the block, is deflected by the pins through a circuitous path and falls into one of the pockets, the objects being to secure the greatest number of points with a given number of balls, the person securing the most points winning the game.
In the present instance, I have shown the bottom of the baseboard 1 as depicting a checker-board 11, as illustrated in Fig. 4. and when it is desired to play the game of checkers, the tube 8 and hopper 9 may be removed from the opening 10 and the apparatus inverted, the board 6 forming a support for the device so that the game may be conveniently played.
I claim Game apparatus, comprising a base-board having the upper surface thereof formed with pockets adjacent to the marginal edges thereof and indicative of relatively diflerent values, a pyramidal block mounted upon said board within the space defined by said pockets, pins projecting outwardly from each side of said block, posts upstanding from said base adjacent to the respective corners of said block and each of a height greater than that of said block, a board on the upper ends of said posts formed centrally With an opening alining With the apeX of the block and adapted to receive thrown missiles to rebound such missiles, a tube detachably secured Within said opening whereby missiles rebounding from said board and falling into said tube may be directed on to the apex of the base to fall down the sides of the base and through circuitous paths by 10 said pins, the undersurface of said base- DANIEL W. MANNHARDT.
