ROLAND C. CONINE, OF BATH, NEW YORK. V i.
EMBALMING- INSTRUMENT.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Application led I une 30, 1914. Serial No. 846,227.
Be it known that I, ROLAND C. CONINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bath, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Embalming Instru-` ments, of which the following is a specificat10n.
My invention relates to embalming instru ments and has for its object to provide a tube used for the purpose of draining the arteries and veins of the human body prior to the operation of embalming.
Another object is to provide an instru.
ment of this character including a slidable frame adapted to break clots formed in the blood whereby the latter may freely ow from the body.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists inthe novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described,
claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal sectional view of the device, Fig. 2 re resents a transverse sectional view on the ine 2 2 of Fig.
1, and, Fig. 3 represents an enlarged detailview of the open end of the tube and the clot breaker or agitator.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the casing of telongated cylindrical formation having open ends and screw threads at one end adapted to coperate with the cap or closure 6 having an aperture therethrough. A branch pipe 7 extending at an oblique angle to the tube 5 communicates with the latter adjacent its closed end and is adapted to be connected with a detachable flexible tube 8 for pumping and conducting the uid from the body to a suitable receptacle.
A rod 9 is positioned within the tube 5 and projects a distance outwardly through the aperture in the cap 6 and is provided with a suitable handle 10 exteriorly of the latter. The rod 9 is adapted for sliding movement through the cap 6 and is provided at its end op osite' the latter with a frame 11 consisting ofp a plurality of bowed or curved spring members connected at their ends and retained in curved' position by securing de# vices 12 secured to the rod 9. A piston or permitted to flow freely through the tube 5,-branch tube of pipe 7 liexible tube 8 and into the receptacle (not shown). When the tube 5 becomes clo ged by a blood clot or other solid body lo ging therein, theframe `11 is moved downwardly through the casing 'eating with said tube adjacent one 4end of the.y
5 and simultaneously rotated by the operator, thus effectively breaking the clot or solid Patented Oct. 6, 1914.`
bod into parts which are drawn outwardly j wit the iow of blood.
What I claim is 1. A device of the character described comprising a tube, a branch pipe communieating with said tube adjacent one end of the latter, a rod slidable through Said tube, a piston on said rod movable within said tube., a handle on said rod eXteriorly of said tube, and a frame on the opposite end of said rod slidable and rotatable in said tube.
2. A device of the character described comprising a tube, a branch pipe communicating with 4said tube adjacent one end of the latter, a rod positioned within said tube, a handle on one end of said rod exteriorly of said tube, a piston secured on said rod and movable longitudinally through said tube, and a plurality of spring members secured to the opposite end of said rod slidable and rotatable in said tube.
3. A device of the character described comprising a tube, a branch pipe communilatter, a rod positioned in said tube, a handle on one end of said rod exteriorly of sald tube, a piston on saidrod movable longitudinally through said tube, and a plurality of spring members secured in bowed position on the op osite end of said rotatable 1n said tub.
In testimon whereof I aix my signature in presence o two witnesses.-
