To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM FISKE STRANGMAN, a citizen of the United. States,

residing at Salem, in the county of. Essex.

and State of" Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massaging Devicesfor the Gums; and I do:

declare the following to be a 1111, clear, and. exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved implement for massaging the gums and- .tis sues around the teeth.

The object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed massaging device con. structed. to readily contact with the various tissues around the teeth whereby they may be thoroughly massaged.

With this and otherobjects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1- is a perspective view of this improved massaging device; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation with parts broken away.

In the embodiment illustrated a soft rubber gum engaging member or head 1 is shown, preferably curved longitudinally throughout its length providing a concave inner face 2 having a longitudinally extending groove 2" at its free end and a convex outer face 3, each of said faces being provided with a plurality of transversely extending corrugations, as 4, the projections or teeth 5 formed by said corrugations being designed to perform the massaging operation when passed over the gums.

means here shown-comprising a short steel; rod 7 having one end% tapered and embedded in the rubber head 1-. and the other end is j secured to. the handle member 6 whereby the connectionwith the handle is reinforced and strengthened, preventing danger of breakage at this point. The tapered end of. said head is designed to be used in a. rather closely confined space and moved laterally with the handle 6' held vertically, hence it is. grooved longitudinally as shown at 2 to provide a multiplicity of teeth or projections at this point to produce an improved therapeutic effect. It will be obvious that "this tip or head 1 may be made in a variety of sizes with slight variations in shape and attached to handles of any desired form.

I claim as my invention:

A massaging device for the gums around the teeth comprising a flexible head with a concave inner face and a convex outer face, said head having a tapered terminal, the convex outer face having continuous trans verse teeth thereon, and the concave face having transverse teeth extending partway of its length, a plurality of oppositely dis posed teeth upon its tapered portion, a

.metal rod having a tapered 'end embedded in the end of said head, and a detachable v handle.
