Description

On peut citer également des huiles, des gels, des émulsions, des sérums, etc..The present invention relates to an applicator, in particular for a product for make-up as well as a packaging and application set using a such applicator. The invention is particularly suitable for products used for making up eyelashes, eyebrows, eyelids, etc. The invention targets in particular liquid products whose viscosity is such that they can flow by gravity. As a purely illustrative example, mention may be made of versatile formulas (mascara-liner, among others) based on polymers crosslinkable or coagulable (pseudo-latex, silicones), pigments, or emollients. Mention may also be made of oils, gels, emulsions, sera, etc.

In the field of makeup in particular, it may be desirable to have applicators offering more than one application characteristic, and / or allowing make up with the same applicator different surfaces. So for example, in the field of mascaras, it may be desirable to be able to make up with the same applicator for both eyelashes and eyelids, or eyebrows and eyelids, or eyelashes and eyebrows. Similarly, it may be interesting to be able to have an applicator which, for making up the same surface, offers two application characteristics, one for example, for the application of product, the other for the finish, or in the case of a mascara for the eyelashes, one for the application of the product, the other for the separation of the eyelashes after application.

One of the embodiments of the brush described in US Patent 4,887,622 describes a brush with three to five turns located near the free end brush, have more bristles than the others, to allow in particular makeup of shorter eyelashes or the corner of the eye. Characteristics of application of this end portion, however, remain close to application characteristics of the rest of the brush. Besides, makeup with a bristle type applicator only, has its limits that it can be desirable, for certain applications to be able to cross. These limits are linked essentially the lack of variety of application characteristics possible, although the last few years have been marked by the arrival of new possibilities in terms of application characteristics, with the appearance bristle brushes whose number, nature, arrangement, shape, have been changed substantially. The crossing of these limits responds by in addition to a need for new marketing concepts, capable of enabling substantial development of the market in question, in particular with formulas more "liquid" than those used in traditional mascaras.

Patent application EP-A-0 511 842 describes a brush which makes it possible to ensure different functions necessary for applying a mascara. The brush is made entirely with bristles, but whose profile is discontinuous. So the brush has two portions which differ from each other due to the shape of their section transverse and / or their size. Indeed, each zone is formed of hairs which do not because of their length, flexibility, profile shape and dimension so that each zone allows the application of mascara different.

Patent application WO-A-96/29905 describes a mascara brush which has a single application area carried by a wire. The wire ends with a head which has a shape allowing it to perform a function different from that of the application area. This head is for example designed to separate the eyelashes.

The technique of molding brush-shaped applicators is known, in particular from patent FR 2 505 633. The applicator nevertheless remains a brush, with the same limits as those mentioned above.

Similarly, it has already been proposed to mount on the free end of a brush. twisted brush type, a small block of foam. The primary function of this block of foam is to prevent the user from injuring herself with the free end of the wire twisted around which the hairs are wound. However, the applicator remains not least a brush with its limits and disadvantages. Among these disadvantages not yet mentioned, we can cite the fragility of the brushes, and their more or less rapid damage, in particular after multiple passages in wringing devices which stress the bristles important.

Also, is it one of the objects of the invention to make an applicator allowing, with at least two different application areas, to obtain at least two application characteristics, either for the same area to be treated, or for two different areas.

It is another object of the invention to provide a new concept applicator, simple, economical to produce, robust, and meets expectations market news, existing or potential.

Other objects of the invention will appear in detail in the description following.

According to the invention, these objects are achieved by producing an applicator, in particular for make-up product, comprising a first application zone consisting of an X axis support, having a plurality of reliefs or asperities on at least part of its surface, said reliefs or asperities being able to retain on the surface of the product, transport it and return it on a surface to treat, the support as well as the reliefs or asperities which it comprises coming from molding of a moldable material, and a second application zone adjacent to the first, a portion of which is integral with a first end of the first application zone, said second application zone being constituted at least by part, of a material capable of pumping deep product and / or fibers natural or synthetic.

Thus, the first application area which, preferably, represents a part substantial axial length of the applicator retains the product on the surface which it defines, by capillarity or surface tension effect, which capacity of retention can be further increased by any treatment, chemical or electrochemical, or by corona effect, or by spraying a varnish and charges, so as to modify its surface state, and to make it rougher. The second application area is made of a material which by its nature (fibrous or porous) is able to retain the product on the one hand on the surface, and on the other goes deeper (by capillary pumping, either in the material itself in the case of a porous material, ie between the fibers). This difference in capillarity of the material, one external, the other both internal and external, allows ability to apply the product present on the first application area, without risk of losing the product present on the second application area, due to its location in more depth. A double zone applicator is thus produced of application, and which lends itself perfectly to the sequential application which it imposes, without risk of loss or significant leakage of the product to be applied second location. In addition, the combination of two application areas, one of which, upstream, is mainly loaded at the surface, and the other, downstream, is loading both on the surface and at depth, allows a perfect spin of the entire applicator, as long as the second application area surprisingly allows any excess product to be absorbed on the first zone, and thus perfect its spin.

Advantageously, the first application zone has an axial length of 2 to 10 times, and preferably 3 to 7 times greater than the axial length of the second application area.

Alternatively, the second application area forms an angle with respect to the X axis of the first application area. This allows for certain applications to facilitate the gestures of application of the product present on the second application area. The angle formed by the second application area relative to the first can be between 2 ° and 45 °, and preferably between 5 ° and 30 °.

Alternatively, the applicator as a whole can form such an angle by relative to the axis of the rod, the first and second application areas being aligned with each other.

The second application area can consist of a brush, a brush twisted, felt tip, flocked tip, foam, foam flocked, sintered, etc. Preferably, the second application zone forms a point tapered towards the end opposite the first application zone. Other shapes are possible, however, depending in particular on the surface to be treat.

According to a variant of the invention, the first application zone comprises a plural of longitudinal and / or angular sectors, each of the sectors having reliefs of shape and / or dimensions and / or arrangements different and defining different application characteristics. it allows to further increase the number of possible application characteristics with such an applicator.

The reliefs or asperities can consist of grooves, slots, spikes, diamond tips, grooves, ridges, bosses, fins, etc. reliefs or asperities can be of uniform dimensions (depth, width) over the entire surface of the first application area, or may be of variable dimensions. Typically, the depth of the reliefs can range from 0.1 mm to 3 mm, and preferably from 0.5 mm to 2 mm.

The reliefs can be aligned axially and / or perpendicular to the axis, or staggered. This gives great flexibility in the application of the product. In the case of a product to be applied to hair fibers, such as eyelashes, we can play on the ability to comb, smooth or separate eyelashes after application.

According to a first embodiment, the first application zone comprises at least two planar, concave or convex faces, the reliefs being formed of ridges formed in each of the corners of the first application zone, and oriented perpendicular to the X axis.

A titre indicatif, la première zone d'application peut être de forme cylindrique, conique, tronconique, ou en forme de ballon de rugby, de poisson, de goutte d'eau, de cacahuète, etc..The shape of the first application area is chosen according to the profile of the surface on which the product is to be applied. As an indication, the first zone application can be cylindrical, conical, frustoconical, or shaped rugby ball, fish ball, water drop, peanut, etc.

Advantageously, the first application zone comprises a second end opposite to the first, said second end being integral with a rod aligned with said axis X, and comprising gripping means. The diameter of the rod may be between 0.8 mm and 5 mm, and preferably, between 1 mm and 2 mm. Preferably, the rod is of section smaller than the section average of the first area of application of the applicator. This characteristic substantially improves the spin of the applicator, when it is extract from the reservoir containing the product to be applied.

The rod can be molded with the first application area. Alternatively, the applicator forms a separate part with respect to the rod, on which it can be mounted by welding, gluing, snap-fastening, force-fitting, etc ..

The gripping means may include means able to cooperate with additional means provided in the vicinity of a defined opening by a free edge of a reservoir containing said product, so as to close off sealing said opening.

The fibers of the second application zone can be vegetable fibers (cotton, rayon, cellulose), animal, mineral, or fiber material thermoplastic (polyamide, polyester, Nylon) and / or elastically deformable such than elastomers, thermoplastic elastomers, elastomers vulcanized, etc.

The material capable of pumping product deep can consist of a sinter or a foam chosen from polyurethane or polyethylene foams, polyvinyl chloride, polyether, NBR (natural rubber), SBR (synthetic rubber), etc.

The materials used to form the first application area can be thermoplastic materials such as polyethylenes, polypropylenes, polyacetals, polyurethanes, polyvinyl chlorides, polystyrenes, etc. and / or elastomers such as elastomers of polyethylene, polyurethane; polyester; polyether block amides; polyvinyls; ter-polymers ethylene, propylene and a diene (EPDM); polymers of block styrene-butadiene (SEBS-SIS); silicone, nitrile elastomers, butyl, etc., or a mixture of such materials with vegetable fibers such than cotton or cellulose fibers.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first zone application comprises at least one groove or slot extending axially over substantially the entire length of said first zone. In a form particular embodiment, the first application zone comprises at least two faces, said grooves or slots being able to be arranged either in the vicinity of the edges separating two contiguous faces, ie in the middle of said faces. Such grooves can have a depth between 0.5 mm and 3 mm, and a width between 0.1 mm and 3 mm. Alternatively, the grooves or slots can be arranged perpendicular to the axis, instead of longitudinally. They can communicate with each other, or be isolated from each other.

The second application zone can be fixed to the first by gluing, welding, strength mounting, snap-fitting, or obtained by overmolding or sub-molding with the first application area. In a preferred embodiment, the second application zone forms at its end opposite to its free end, an extension capable of fitting into an axial recess formed in the support of the first application zone, said recess being able to be isolated from the surface of the first application area. The extension may extend to inside the recess over all or part of the length of the support. This characteristic is particularly advantageous in that it allows without increase the external volume, increase the pumping capacity of the second application area, especially during spinning, thus allowing absorb almost all of the excess product on the first application area, while keeping the second application zone free of any excess product. Alternatively, if necessary, the longitudinal slots open inside of the axial recess, in which case, the extension located inside the recess, serves as a material bridge for the retention of liquid between the edges delimiting the groove. The extension can be of the same nature as the area of application, or of a different nature.

According to another aspect of the invention, a set of packaging and application of a makeup product comprising a applicator according to the invention.

Such a packaging unit may include a reservoir containing the product and a free edge of which defines an opening, the applicator being carried by a rod, one end opposite to the applicator comprises suitable means to removably close said opening when the applicator is arranged to inside the tank, wiping means being provided for dosing the product on the applicator when the latter is removed from the reservoir for application of the product.

According to a preferred embodiment, the wringing means comprise a block of foam axially traversed by a channel or at least one slot. As for illustration, a foam of an elastomer such as polyurethane or polyether, in particular.

Alternatively, the wringing means comprise a member in the form of split diabolo. Such a wiping member can be made of a material elastically deformable, such as a thermoplastic elastomer.

The applicator 1 shown in Figure 1 includes a first application area 2, constituting the major part of the applicator and obtained by molding a material such as thermoplastic resin or powder. This first application zone 2 defines a volume centered on the X axis, of circular section variable between the first end 3 and the second 4. The area of this area application has grooves 5 oriented perpendicular to the X axis of the applicator. The grooves can be of identical or variable depth, in depending on the nature of the application. Such grooves are able to retain product on the surface, between the tops of the furrows, in particular by tension effect superficial. The second end 4 of the application area 2 is integral with a rod 6, intended as will be seen below for gripping the applicator and when mounted on a packaging unit. Preferably, the rod is obtained by molding with the application area. The diameter of the rod is in the range of 1 mm to 2 mm. The diameter of the application area 2 is, in the vicinity ends 3, 4, of the order of 5 to 7 mm, and of the order of 3 to 4 mm at the neighborhood of the center. The rod can be made of an identical material or different from the material forming the molded part.

The assembly consisting of the first application zone 2 and the rod 6 can be molded in a type molding device forming an elongated impression, determined by a plurality of sector-shaped mold parts coming from adjoin by adjacent radial faces when closing the mold, said sectors being susceptible to movement with a radial component between the closed position and an open position. Such devices are good known in the field of molding, and therefore do not require any additional detailed description. The material can be introduced into the mold by injection, compression or by casting.

The first end 3 is integral with a second application zone 7, aligned axially with the first application zone, and constituted according to this mode of realization, of a flocked point. Such a flocked tip consists of a elastomer core for example, covered by flocking with cotton fibers, rayon or polyamide 8. These fibers define a thin "carpet", able to pump product by capillary action. The flocking may include a mixture bristles or fibers of different lengths and / or of different diameters, and / or different natures. The pumping capacity is further accentuated by realizing the core of the tip flocked in sintered or open cell foam material or semi open. The length of the flocked tip can be of the order of 5 mm to 1 cm, and its diameter near the end adjacent to the first zone of application, is preferably less than or equal to the diameter of the end 3. The flocked tip can be mounted on the applicator by any suitable means (bonding, welding, snap-fastening, crimping, etc.). So such a brush is particularly suitable for making up eyelashes with application area 2, then using the same formula, to achieve a more or less fine line on the eyelid with the tip of the flocked tip 7.

In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the grooves are replaced by bosses 53, in the shape of a diamond point, aligned or staggered. The second application area 7 consists of a brush consisting of a tuft axially oriented bristles. Here too, this network of fibers, of Nylon for example, is capable of pumping the product by capillarity and of retaining it both on the surface, only in depth, between the hairs.

In the embodiment of FIGS. 3A and 3B, the first application area is of rectangular or square section. The section of this application zone 2 will decreasing between the second end 4 integral with the rod 6, and the first end 3 secured to the second application zone 7. In the same way as for the embodiment of FIG. 1, the surface of the first zone application has grooves 5 capable of retaining product on the surface. Moreover, longitudinal grooves 10, 11, 12, 13 are provided at each of the angles of the application area 2. These grooves 10, 11, 12, 13, as shown in the sectional view of Figure 3B are arranged so as to have their bottoms respective converging towards the X axis. The grooves 5 open at their ends in grooves 10, 11, 12, 13. Such grooves help to increase by substantially the product retention area by tension effect superficial. The depth of the grooves can vary between 0.5 mm and 3 mm. In this embodiment, the second application zone consists of a point felt. In this embodiment, the assembly of the felt tip on the applicator is made by means of a sleeve or axial extension carried by the end of the felt tip, opposite its free end, and able to be inserted at force in an axial housing passing longitudinally through all or part of the first application zone, said axial housing being isolated from the surface outside of the first application area. The sleeve can also be held in place in the recess by gluing or welding. With such an arrangement, the pumping capacity of the felt tip is increased, without increasing the external volume of the applicator. This excess pumping capacity allows to substantially improve the autonomy of the second application zone, and also improves the spin of the applicator by absorbing any excess of product.

In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the first application area 2 is of triangular section. The sides which delimit it are slightly concave. Of the same as for the embodiment of FIGS. 3A and 3B, the section of the molded application zone 2, gradually decreasing while approaching the second application zone 7. A longitudinal groove 10 is arranged longitudinally substantially in the middle of each of the faces. of the ridges 14 are made on each of the edges of the triangle, so as to retain of the product on the surface, by the effect of surface tension. The second area Application 7 is also there, consisting of a brush tapered at its free end, and whose maximum section is preferably less than the minimum section of the first application area 2.

In the embodiment of FIG. 5, the first application zone 2 forms a straight cylinder of revolution, traversed longitudinally by at least one groove 10. The surface of the first application zone has grooves 15 arranged over its entire length, perpendicular to the X axis, and opening out by their ends in the groove (s) 10. The second application area 7 consists of a tip made of sintered material. The end of the rod opposite the applicator 1 comprises gripping means 16, further forming a cap capable of closing a reservoir containing the product to be applied. Such cap can be obtained from molding with rod 6 and the first zone application 2. The cap 16 comprises a side skirt 17 whose surface exterior can be covered with an overlay (not shown). The surface internal side skirt includes a thread 18 adapted to cooperate with a corresponding thread provided on the external surface of the tank neck. The cap defines an axial chimney 19, one closed end of which carries the rod 6, and whose external diameter is adapted to seal the opening of the product tank.

The applicator shown in Figure 6 differs from other embodiments in that the first application area 2 defines a plurality of sectors longitudinal 20, 21, 22 having different reliefs, so as to allow more flexibility in the application characteristics of the applicator. So a first sector 20 has bosses in the shape of a diamond point, staggered. A central sector 21 has grooves perpendicular to the X axis. A third sector has rows of reliefs serrated, oriented parallel to the X axis. The second application area 7 consists of a twisted brush 23 with a maximum diameter at most equal to diameter of the first application zone, and configured as a point in the direction of its free end. The twisted brush 23 is produced in a conventional manner by means of a rigid or semi-rigid wire, folded into a hairpin, which wraps around itself, after having appropriately arranged fibers, Nylon for example, between the two branches of the folded wire. This application area in the form of a twisted brush can advantageously be used for separate the eyelashes after application using the molded part 2, or to make up the corner of the eye, or any other surface difficult to access. Brush 23 can be mounted on the end 3 of the first application area by inserting force in an axial housing formed in the support of the first zone Application 2, an unhaired end of the core of the brush.

According to this embodiment, the first application area 2 has an elongated section, generally planar, so as to define two main faces, traversed right through by a slit or light 10 extending axially over substantially the entire length of the molded part, and delimited mainly by two longitudinal edges 50, 51. The end 3 of the molded part, opposite the rod 6, has an axial hole inside which a flocked felt tip is forcibly mounted 7. The felt tip is of length sufficient to extend axially inside the slot 10, over substantially the entire length of the molded part, and has its point which emerges beyond the molded part. This emerging part forms the second application zone 7, adjacent to the first 2. The part 52 of the felt tip located inside the molded part 2, acts as a material bridge between the edges of the molded part, delimiting the slot 10, so as to produce at least one liquid bridge between said slots edges 50, 51. It should be noted that part 52, due to its location slightly set back from the edges 50, 51 of the molded part, does not come not in substantial contact with the surface to be treated, and only serves as a support for the liquid retained on the surface by the first application zone. Of the same so that for the embodiments of FIGS. 1 and 3A, grooves 5 are formed on the external surface of the first application zone, so as to retaining product on the surface by surface tension effect. A front view of the Figure 7A device is shown in Figure 7B.

In the embodiment of FIGS. 8A and 8B, the molded application area 1 is of substantially circular section, and provided with three slots 10, 11, 12, angularly spaced 120 ° and communicating with each other at the axis X. The external surface generated by this molded part has grooves 5 perpendicular to the X axis to retain product on the surface. The width of the slots is of the order of 1 to 2 mm. In length, the slots extend over substantially the entire axial length of the application zone 2, without however leading to the ends 3, 4. A block of flocked foam 7 is fixed by gluing, in alignment with the X axis, on the end 3 of the first application area. Such block of foam, in the shape of a drop of water, is particularly suitable for eyelid makeup. A front view of the applicator of Figure 8A is shown in Figure 8B. In the same way as for the embodiment previous, material bridges can be made by molding inside slots 10, 11, 12, so as to produce liquid bridges.

This assembly 100 comprises a reservoir 101, one end of which is closed by a bottom 102, and the other end of which is surmounted by a neck 103 in the form of a insert, snapped on a free edge of the tank 101. The external surface of the neck 103 has a thread 104 capable of cooperating with the thread 18 carried by the internal surface of the side skirt 17 formed by the cap 16 secured to the rod 6. The internal skirt 19 of the cap has an outside diameter suitable for closing sealingly the opening 105 delimited by the free edge of the neck 103. A overlay 106 is disposed on the cap. Inside the pass, near its lower end, is mounted by gluing or welding, a block of foam open or semi-open cells 109, forming a wiping member. The block of foam 109 is axially crossed by a channel 110 (of diameter less than external diameter of the rod 6), or two slots arranged in a cross. Such an organ is described in more detail in patent application FR 96-02477 filed February 28, 1996 in the name of the plaintiff. Alternatively, the organ wring 109 is in the form of a split diabolo, described in more detail in the French patent 2,730,911. In the closed position of the cap 16, the applicator 1 has its free end in the vicinity of the bottom 102 of the tank 101 and dips in the product P, the rod 6 passing through the channel 110 of the wiper member 109.

To use the applicator, the user unscrews the cap 16 and extracts the applicator. During this extraction movement, the rod is wiped by the organ 109, as well as the applicator 1. In reality, passing through the wringer, the latter retains any excess product on the application area 2. Only the product contained in the hollow parts of the reliefs or asperities that it carries, remains on the area Application area 2. Application area 7 is also wrung out by switching to across the block of foam, so that the point it defines is perfectly tapered, and has no drop of product at its free end in excess. Any excess product that may remain on the molded part of the applicator flows onto the second application zone, where it is absorbed. The spin is perfectly uniform over the entire length of the applicator, ie of identical quality for the two application zones. The applicator, perfectly loaded and wrung out, is ready for use. Even in the case or the second application area is a twisted brush, as discussed in with reference to FIG. 6, the bristles which it contains are not damaged, in in particular because of its maximum section, which is preferably less than the minimum section of the molded part 2.

In the foregoing detailed description, reference has been made to modes of preferred embodiments of the invention. Obviously there may be variations made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed below. AT by way of example, the applicator, in particular the molded part 2, may be of shape curve, to further improve the precision of makeup.
