Abstract

The cable has one or more electrical conductors (3) with a strip of suitable material wound round the conductor group to provide a shielding screen (6). The screen has lines of weakness formed along its length to allow it to be easily separated. The weakness is formed by perforations (10) positioned at regular intervals along the shielding strip. The size of the perforations is chosen to minimise the effect on the shielding properties. The perforations are in a line that lies either along the length of the cable, parallel to the conductors or runs along the strip forming the shielding so that the perforations spiral along the length of the cable.

Description

The present invention relates to cables comprising at least one electrical conductor and a shielding screen formed of a ribbon. It applies in particular to cables with multiple conductors such as cables used in IT including four pairs of conductors formed by two quartes.

In most applications, it is necessary to ability to remove shielding tape to connect cable conductors to a connector. To this end, it is known to place a tearing line arranged in length under the shielding tape; see for example US-A-5,107,076. solution is however not very satisfactory because it is necessary first open the shielding tape over a length about ten centimeters in order to be able to access the tearing line; this operation thus presents the risk of damaging the cable. In addition, some ribbons of shielding used, such as aluminum complexes laminated to a polyester backing are very resistant and therefore very difficult to tear.

En outre, un blindage eficace est difficile à obtenir avec des signaux de fréquence supérieure à 100 MHz.It is also known to lay two ribbons at a time, with opposite direction steps to form a screen of shielding; see for example DE-A-3 123 040. The need using two ribbons is a drawback. In addition, effective shielding is difficult to obtain with signals of frequency higher than 100 MHz.

The invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the state of the art.

According to the invention, a cable comprising at minus an electrical conductor, a ribbon laid over and forming shielding screen and tearing means of said screen is characterized in that said means of tearing is formed by incisions in the screen of shielding arranged along at least one line running on along the cable.

These incisions form a beginning of rupture from which it is easy to tear off the tape shielding.

The invention makes it possible to get rid of the rope of tear used in the prior art which, on the one hand simplifies the manufacture of the cable and, on the other hand, especially in the case of small cables, avoids the excess thickness due to the tearing line.

The shielding according to the invention is also well better than that offered by a set of two ribbons each posed already.

According to the invention, the shielding tape can be laid lengthwise or helically.

The characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear better on reading the following embodiments, given by way of illustration but not limitation, made with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents an armored quarter in which the armor strip has helical incision lines, and
  • FIG. 2 represents a two-quarter shielded cable, each quarter being individually shielded.

In the figures, the common elements bear the same reference numbers.

This type of cable is used in the IT field for data transmission. Each quarter 2 consists of a twist of four solid copper conductors 3, the conductors 3 being each insulated by a first insulating sheath 4 in one material with a low dielectric constant, such as polyethylene or expanded polypropylene for example.

The diameter of the solid conductors 3 is 0.6 mm and the diameter of the conductors insulated by means of the sheaths is 1.3 mm.

Quarters 2, arranged side by side, are surrounded a second insulating sheath 5. This can be consisting of a thin shell 0.25 to 1 mm thick made of polyethylene, which allows rigid and reliable support of quads relative to each other while providing a sufficient elasticity to allow handling of the cable. A shielding screen 6, constituted by a ribbon 7 deposited in propeller, is made around the second sheath to avoid the signals carried by the cable are not disturbed by external electromagnetic radiation.

For example, the shielding screen is an aluminum tape 50 µm thick and 5 mm wide.

Finally, an outer envelope for maintaining and protection 8, for example PVC, is extruded around all.

In the cable shown in Figure 1, the second sheath 5 can be omitted if the shielding screen is able to ensure the function of keeping the four in place compared to each other.

The shielding tape 7 is laid, in a conventional manner, helical and overlapping. It could also be laid lengthwise and overlapping. Incisions 10 are obtained by perforation by means of a wheel comprising points in the shape of needles. This perforation can be performed on the ribbon before it is put in place (in the case where each line of incisions is parallel to the edge of the ribbon), or when manufacturing the cable after installation of the screen and before wrapping in the sheath 8.

For a cable as defined above, needles 0.2 to 0.5 mm in diameter with a length of 5/100 to 1/10 mm allow to create the desired incisions without hurting insulated conductors.

More generally, we understand that incisions having a dimension of one to a few tenths of a millimeter does not significantly affect the screen properties of the shielding tape at frequencies of the order of 100 MHz.

Ces lignes peuvent être droites, hélicoïdales, sinusoïdales, en zig-zag, etc...The incisions 10 are formed according to one or more lines running along the cable. These lines can be straight, helical, sinusoidal, zig-zag, etc ...

When several lines of incisions are made, as in the case of the cable shown in FIG. 1, these are preferably distributed so as to be equidistant.

According to the number of conductors and the type of signals used, it may be useful in some applications of shield separately from conductor sub-assemblies. So, as shown in Figure 2, we can replace the two-quarter cable shielding screen shown on the previous figures by two shielding screens, one for each quarter.

Ceci permet d'améliorer le niveau de paradiaphonie entre quartes d'au moins 20 dB.This improves the level of crosstalk between quarters of at least 20 dB.

In applications where the interaction between quartes would be less, it is possible to only plan a shielding screen only on one of the two quarters.

The incisions 9A and 9B of each of the screens of shielding 6A and 6B are not necessarily identical, nor in their size and in their shape.

The invention is not limited to the embodiments represented. On the contrary, it applies to any cable comprising at least one electrical conductor and at least one shielding tape, regardless of the number of conductors and the number of sub-assemblies of conductors screened separately.
