The role: Lead Network Security Engineer, Corporate

Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.

You encourage safe and efficient network operations by leading project teams that maintain and improve network operations. You propose projects that increase network reliability and analyze network technologies that assess implications for Google.

Google's advanced corporate network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. As Lead Network Security Engineer working within the Corporate Network Engineering team, you'll be a key player in the security roadmap and consulting efforts that address Google's diverse needs for network communications and connectivity.

Your job will span traditional enterprise challenges, including access policies, third-party customer connectivity, and the rise of BYOD; you'll also face down the uncommon challenges, including security policy design for special-projects labs, WIFI networks where your customers are designing the next generation of mobile devices, and security architecture for a global enterprise with a highly diverse set of WAN providers and increasing levels of network segmentation. You'll have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of other teams beyond corporate network engineering, including security operations, systems engineering, hardware operations, backbone network engineering, and many others. Keeping the network secure ensures that our employees stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services, and that our engineers can focus on creating the next generation of public Google products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and document 2-year security road map for the Google enterprise network.
  • Define best-of-class security practices for enterprise networks consuming cloud services, and lead projects to implement these practices.
  • Represent the enterprise network team as part of cross-departmental partnerships to reinvent enterprise security and improve Google's ability to be both secure and productive.
  • Provide network and application security consulting and design services to internal corporate customers, and to internal-external partnerships that include Google business partners and vendors.
  • Create and document security policy, and lead initiatives to ensure its implementation.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA or BS in EE/CS. In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • M.S. or other advanced degree. CISSP or similar industry security certification.
  • 4 years of experience with network and application security architecture at a firm with global operations and 10,000+ employees.
  • 6 years of IT architecture experience in a large enterprise environment.
  • Experience with network and application infrastructure components such as traditional network firewalls, application firewalls, content management systems, portal management, application servers, and multi-tiered architecture across demilitarized zones.
  • Experience with security design for multi-service enterprise WIFI networks with multiple classes of users.
